A Sneak Peak At The 2013 Topps Heritage Checklist

Looks like a very, very partial 2013 Topps Heritage checklist has been released.  Haven't had time to look it over thoroughly, but a couple of quick notes:

It says the New Age Performers set is 30 cards!  This is always the toughest insert set to complete of the regular insert sets even with only fifteen cards.  If this is correct, this will be very hard to put together through casual pack buying.

Autograph checklist is looking very nice with numerous Hall of Famers including Bob Gibson, Willie Mays, Juan Marichal, Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson and Stan Musial.  And if auto's are really twice as easy to pull this year, there should be some really nice hits for a lot of Heritage collectors.

I can't wait!

2013 Topps Sneak Peek

Beckett gave us a sneak peek of the 2013 Topps Series 1 set today.  The cards look pretty good, although nothing that is a huge shock.  From the examples, the base cards look like Topps base cards with white borders, there appears to be some kind of a camouflage border parallel set and a pink border parallel set.  The pink is possible a refractor, can't tell for sure.  2013 Topps is scheduled to be released in mid-February.

First Stage of Vintage Find Sells for $566k!

You probably read about the crazy E98 vintage stash that a family found in their grandparents attic in Ohio a few weeks ago.  Well Heritage Auctions just sold a portion of those cards (full CBS article).  The final gavel:  $566,132!  Amazing.  Jealous...

I'm Going to Kansas City...Kansas City Here I Come

OK, technically I arrived in KC yesterday for the 2012 All Star Game.  The trip started off with an interesting twist as I was on the same plane from DFW with US Softball pitcher (and Celebrity Apprentice contestant) Jennie Finch.  She is tall!  I later learned that she was flying in to play in the Celebrity Softball game at Kauffman Stadium yesterday.  Once I landed in KC, I had a few hours to kill yesterday afternoon so I decided to check out the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and I am extremely glad that I did.  It's not large in size, but there is a treasure trove of information in there if you are interested in the history of baseball.  I highly recommend a trip there if you ever are in Kansas City.

It Holds Heritage Cards and Pizza!

When the Heritage rip party was over and my friend wanted to take some pizza to eat while driving, I first looked for paper plates. Striking out on that search I was forced to improvise...

An Analysis of 2012 Topps Heritage Retail

Picked up a some 2012 Topps Heritage retail packs from the local Walmart yesterday. This is a very small sample, but here is what I got:

3 rack packs ($5.29 each plus tax): 1 chrome, 1 NAP, 1 SP, 1 Blue Border, 1 Stick On
5 blaster boxes ($19.98 each plus tax): 2 chrome, 1 black refractor, 3 NAP, 4 TN, 1 Baseball FB, 4 News FB, 5 Blue Border, 12 SP, 5 stick ons.

A couple of things I noticed, the packs are really easy to open this year (good), the cards so far look awesome (great), the only downside is the numbers on the back seem smaller than usual so it's going to be harder on my old eyes when I'm sorting. All in all, I'm liking this set a lot so far.

Here is the black refractor I pulled...not to bad.

2012 Topps Heritage Variations

Looks like lots of variations this year! I am not even sure what these are yet, but there are at least 25 Image Swap Variations, 25 Image Swap Variation Relics, 25 Color Swap Variations, 10 Short Print Error Variations, 25 Target Red Border Variations and 25 Walmart Blue Border Variations...and I'm guessing there are more to come!

Talk About Linsane Lincome ($$$)

OK, I know everyone is getting tired with the "Lin" words but I couldn't help. This really is crazy. I get the fact that he's putting up crazy numbers, plays in the biggest media market in the NBA and has tons of fans in the most populous area of the world...but how many NBA players can claim that a card of theirs is selling for more than they make per game? Jeremy Lin's salary for 2011-2012 is $762,195 (which will http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifbe prorated for the shortened NBA season, but the per game amount should be the same) which breaks down to about $9,295. As of this writing, the auction below is already over twice that amount with four days still to go! Still hasn't met the seller's reserve price either, wonder what that is.

The Golden Ticket

Would have liked to have found one of these in the jumbo box I ripped yesterday! I did pull one of those Bunny Ear short prints but those are looking to be VERY common for a short print. Will try to get some more pics up soon.

2012 Topps Hits DFW

I was finally able to locate some 2012 Topps retail yesterday at the local Joyner World (aka WalMart) and picked up four of the 72 card "blister" packs. They were $9.99 (not $10.48 like on the pre-release material). Did not get any major hits but most of the insert cards look to be nicely done this year. Here are the highlights from the first two packs. They are phone pics, not scans so hopefully the quality is OK.

Well That Didn't Take Long (2012 Topps Variations Found)

Three new variations found (New 2012 Topps Variations Found). Looks like the Pujols variation is the only one not found yet (or at least listed on eBay yet). Also looks like the squirrel card is by far the most common of the variations and yet continues to sell for hundreds of dollars. There are fourteen listed by my count plus one that sold on a best offer for slightly over $300.

January Madness -- 2012 Topps

Well, the madness has already started! $300 (and climbing) for a card no one knows how rare it is yet. I am always fascinated (and a little jealous) of how much some of the first listings of cards from new sets go for. This one will be fun to watch.

A Reduction in eBay Sales Costs?

OK, so it's USPS that's giving us the break, but hey every little bit counts! And it's about time!

"Starting January 22, USPS will be offering free Delivery Confirmation on First Class postage purchased online, so that's one more reason to ship using eBay Labels!"

From email I just got from eBay.

Infinite Baseball Card Set

Just ran across a really cool article on ESPN about a really cool baseball card blog I had never heard of. The Infinite Baseball Card Set blogger, Gary Cieradkowski, draws his own vintage style cards of players with interesting stories. They look like vintage tobacco cards each card has a complete story with it. There are Hall of Famers, career minor leaguers and even famous fictional players. Very nice.

Weird 2012 Topps Cards

The 2012 Topps Fan Blog posted some pics of an auction on ebay claiming to be 2012 Topps Gold Rush cards. These are way different from the previews I have seen. Anyone know what these are? I sent the seller a question asking about them so we'll see what they say. Topps employee? Fake cards/photoshop trick?
