Don't Throw Away Your 2013 Allen & Ginter Hobby Box Tops!

Some of the 2013 Allen & Ginter hobby box tops contain a card inside of them, including some one of one cards.  Craig from mybaseballcardblog texted me saying that Brent (from BrentAndBecca) ripped 32 cases of Allen & Ginter (yes 32 cases!) and found three of them, so they are pretty rare but be sure to check.  I ripped two boxes at a card store in Plano, TX and I kept one box to hold all my cards on the way home, but unfortunately I threw away the other box at the store.  The box top from the box I kept came up empty.  Here is a video I found on youtube that kind of explains it:

2013 Allen & Ginter Unnanounced Surprise Sets

Last Wednesday when I was at Triple Cards in Plano, TX for the 2013 Allen & Ginter opening day rip party, we noticed two sets pop up that were not in any of Topps original pre-release info.  They were both mini card insert sets.  The first one was called "All In A Days Work" and the second was called "People on Bicycles".  You can see the checklists here:

I was lucky enough to pull the All In A Days Work School Teacher card from the two hobby boxes that I opened:

2013 Allen & Ginter Yasiel Puig Mini, Clayton Kershaw Rip Card and more

Yesterday was the opening day of 2013 Allen & Ginter so I decided to stop by my local hobby store on the way home from work.  I picked up two hobby boxes at Triple Cards in Plano, TX and joined the rip party.  Two packs in I found an A&G back Yasiel Puig mini.  I decided to roll the dice and list it immediately as a one day listing.  Sometimes these hot rookies drop dramatically in price after a week or two, sometimes they don't:

In the same box I also pulled the full size Yasiel Puig card:

And a little later in that box I pulled one of the coveted rip cards.  A Clayton Kershaw numbered out of 25.  I've never had much luck with Rip Cards that I've decided to open, so I am playing it safe and listing it unripped.  That should cover a decent amount of one of the boxes.

I'll post more about my two box break later today, but overall I am happy with this year's version of A&G, and it's always fun to hang out at a good 'ole sports card store and rip with other collectors.

Topps Heritage Cut Signature Reverse Auction

Craig over at mybaseballcardblog is running what I call a reverse auction. This is when the card is listed as a buy it now and the seller lowers the price every day (or some set interval of time) until the card finally sells. Thus kind of like a poker game, you have to decide if you want to buy the card now, or wait for a lower price...but risk the card getting bought by another buyer if the price gets too low. I have used thus reverse auction strategy before, but never on a card of this magnatude. Craig is running this on a one of one Topps Heritage Cut Signature card! Check it out:

2013 Topps Heritage Bryce Harper Cards Are En Fuego

The current selling price of 2013 Topps Heritage Bryce Harper cards is insane!  The regular SP's are selling for over $20!  This is just for the regular SP's, take a look at what they are currently going for on eBay:

I can wait to see what some of the numbered Harper inserts go for.  I'm hoping to pull one of the gold border refractors that are numbered out of five!  Or wouldn't mind this one either!

2013 Topps Heritage is Live!!!

Wow, retail has hit the shelves a few days before hobby the past few years, but this is a whole week early.  And it's a purple refractor of Jeter!  There are some others as well, all look to be from Oregon or California so far.  Guess I'm going to have to start hitting the local Target's and Walmart's!  Here is the listing on eBay and a pic.

Houston...We Have a Problem

Craig has the 2013 Topps Heritage checklist broken down by team, and Astros fans are sure to be disappointed.  It's not enough that Astros fans will have to watch their team play in the offensively powerful American League now, and in the same division as the offensive juggernaut lineups of the Rangers and Angels, but Astros fans will not have much to look forward to according to the 2013 Topps Heritage Houston Astros team checklist.  Other than two Colt .45 Real One Autograph cards and the Colt .45 uniform variation card of each Astros player in the base set, there is not a single Houston insert card!  No chromes, no New Age Performers, no Clubhouse Collection relics, nothing other than those two Colt 45 auto's.  The curse of Enron lives on!  Just another problem for the team I used to call my favorite National League team (I was born in Houston and have lived there several times).

2013 Topps Heritage Sets Tougher To Complete

The past few years, one of the most challenging parts of completing a basic Topps Heritage master set (base set, short prints and the 3/4/5 primary insert sets) was completing the 15 card New Age Performers set.  Well according to this checklist, the New Age Performers set is doubling in size to 30 cards this year!  I have not had time to look completely over the entire checklist yet, but looks like the Real One Autos have some nice Hall of Famers like Bob Gibson, Frank Robinson, Stan Musial and Willie Mays.  Plus there are mini cards this year!  I will have to investigate this further tonight.

Congratulations to the 2013 Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees

There is no greater individual honor for a major league baseball player than being inducted in the the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.  So in honor of this year's inductees, here are some of their rookie cards from my personal collection.
